NOKIAN HAKKAPELIITTA TRUCK E PAVES THE WAY FOR A NEW TRUCK TYRE PRODUCT RANGE

Nokian Tyres is introducing a new Nokian Hakkapeliitta Truck E tyre for trucks and buses, designed for the demanding and changing winter conditions. This new winter drive tyre is also the first member of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta Truck product family, which relies on the established Nokian Tyres core values: safety, wear resistance and environmental friendliness.

Nokian Hakkapeliitta Truck E (Extreme) is true to its name: it's right at home in the harshest and most demanding extreme conditions. This newcomer, custom-designed for the Nordic environment, combines outstanding grip with excellent wear resistance.

The tread design features more than 1,100 efficient transverse sipes, forming a dense network that helps maximise grip. The tyre is also equipped with special sipe activators that are very sensitive to the road surface and rapidly activate the sipes, particularly in changing temperatures and road conditions.

The aggressive, arrow-shaped tread design and the sharp front edges in the tread blocks enhance traction and braking grip, increasing the grip on icy roads and in snow. The tyre provides excellent longitudinal and lateral grip, which makes start-off, even in slippery uphill terrain, easy and manageable. The open tread design ensures that snow cleans off easily.

Effortless resistance on rough roads

“Nokian Hakkapeliitta Truck E is the result of years of intensive work; it’s a new-generation product that combines the excellent grip and resistance properties that professional drivers value very highly,” says Teppo Siltanen, Product Manager, Nokian Truck Tyres. Development work drew on the experiences of the highly commended Nokian Noktop 41 traction surface and the Nokian NTR-817 truck tyre.

Superb wear resistance was achieved by using a new type of rubber compound in the tread that was specially designed for the Nordic conditions. The outer rubber layer ensures excellent winter properties: the tread holds its grip in changing conditions. Meanwhile, the lower rubber layer reduces heat build-up and, thereby, decreases rolling resistance.

The tyre resists wear on rough road surfaces, wears evenly and maintains its reliable grip even when worn. The tread offers high resistance to tear, which increases safety in tough conditions such as on winding forest roads.

Stable and precise driving response

Nokian Hakkapeliitta Truck E delivers a sharp and precise driving response. The sturdy tyre structure and staggered, sequential tread blocks ensure high driving stability for a heavily-loaded combination vehicle. The pronounced arrow pattern also increases driving stability. Staggered tread block placement helps keep tyre noise pleasantly low.

Winter Safety Indicator – a new innovation

The new innovation featured in the Nokian Hakkapeliitta Truck E is the Winter Safety Indicator (WSI), which indicates when the tyre’s best grip is available in harsh winter conditions, on icy road, in deep snow or wet slush. After the snow flake symbol placed on the tread block has worn off, the tyre will continue to perform well in regular winter driving.

The Driving Safety Indicator (DSI) indicates groove depth. The numbers stamped on the tread show the remaining groove depth in millimetres. The numbers fade, one at a time, as the tyre wears down.

It is recommendable to have the Nokian Hakkapeliitta Truck E tyres fitted in the autumn. The tyre should be replaced or retreaded when it wears down to the 4mm minimum groove depth. The wide distribution of studs in six rows guarantees uncompromised grip.

Economical and environmentally responsible

The Nokian Hakkapeliitta Truck E, designed for freight transport, buses and timber trucks, is economic and environmentally friendly. The new tyre rolls lightly, which reduces fuel costs. The wear-resistant multipurpose tyre is manufactured without any high aromatic oils that are classified as harmful and stressful to the environment.

The sales of Nokian Hakkapeliitta Truck E will begin in August in Nokian Tyres’ key markets in the Nordic countries and Russia. Tyre sizes 295/80 R 22.5 and 315/80 R 22.5 will be available in the first stage.
