Nokian TRI2 holds its top position among contracting tyres

Right tyre choices bring significant fuel savings

Nokian TRI 2 has been able to defend its top position among contracting tyres as it combines strong grip, high efficiency, and long durability. It is now even suitable for contracting use all year round representing another leap in product development. This block-patterned contracting tyre provides better grip even for the challenging winter work.

“Nokian TRI 2 has ruled tests measuring grip, economies and durability, both on Nokian Tyres' own test track and in independent test drives. The tyre choice can have a major impact on such factors as fuel consumption: TRI 2 tyres can save up to 5 litres of fuel per hour in comparison with competing tyres”, says Marketing Manager Jarkko Puikkonen.

The size range of Nokian TRI 2 has expanded to over 20 sizes, and new sizes will be added as new usage targets and machine types become relevant.

Diversifying contracting environments challenge tyre manufacturers

The tightening economy and increasing productivity requirements have significantly raised the utilisation rate of heavy agricultural machinery. Often, the machinery is in use all year round and in varying conditions: in the field, on snow, ice or grass, at mines and on-road.
The increased working hours, diversified tasks and higher efficiency expectations set new demands on the equipment, as well, and not least on tyres.

“On the global scale, Nokian can be seen as a relatively small manufacturer. In the ever-changing conditions, we are an agile special expert that can respond to new needs quickly,” says Project Manager Tero Saari, analysing the reasons behind TRI tyres' success.

Nokian Heavy Tyres was separated into an independent production branch within the Nokian Tyres Group in 2006, and this gave new rise to heavy tyre development. The research and development team contains expertise from various fields, which guarantees that all factors, from usage needs to technology and sales, are taken into account in the design process.

“There is demand for tyres for increasingly large and heavy machines but also for smaller ones, in facility maintenance, for example. Our product development stays alert and responds to messages from the field. The product development team is supported by test user customers, who provide us with prompt feedback about the functionality of our tyres,” Saari tells us.
