Nokian Tyres Unveils Premium All-Season Tire Crafted for North American Light Trucks and SUVs

The new Nokian Tyres One HT is a premium, long-lasting and rugged all-season tire crafted for back roads and daily urban driving. Engineered for the diverse needs of North American drivers, it provides safety and toughness in all conditions. The Nokian Tyres One HT has been tested in demanding conditions around the globe, including the company’s winter test facility in Ivalo, Finland. The result is a breakthrough in the areas of traction and durability: The new light truck tread design enhances cornering and grip, and for the first time, LT-metric sizes are equipped with Aramid Armor to protect drivers from punctures by road hazards.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Nokian Tyres is taking a step forward in the North American tire market with the launch of the Nokian Tyres One HT, a premium all-season tire tailored to the needs of light truck and SUV drivers in North America. The new product will offer safety in all conditions and toughness on rough roads while living up to the rigorous sustainability standards that make Nokian Tyres one of the eco-friendliest tire companies in the world.

Nokian Tyres is launching the Nokian Tyres One HT in tandem with the grand opening of its state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Dayton, Tennessee. As the factory grows toward its full capacity of as many as four million tires per year, the new tire will be among the primary products made there. The company will primarily sell the product in North America.

The Nokian Tyres One HT is a result of rigorous testing around the globe, from Nokian Tyres’ winter test track in Ivalo, Finland to the backroads of South Africa, as well as across North America in the heat of Texas, mountains of Utah and urban downtowns of California. This testing brings drivers the toughness, safety and sustainability they need, as well as new innovations, such as Aramid Armor to help resist damage from road hazards.

Crafted to meet the demands of North American roads, the Nokian Tyres One HT provides safer performance in all conditions: stronger grip on rainy roads, a tailored tread to maximize comfort, and even winter properties that help navigate mild snow and ice.

Toughness through innovation

The tire offers toughness for back roads and daily urban use. Its compound doesn’t just provide a smooth journey; it also helps make each ride safer. Extremely durable Aramid fibers form the basis of two innovations, one of them being introduced for the first time.

As with Nokian Tyres’ other recent light truck and SUV tires, the Nokian Tyres One HT features Aramid Sidewall technology, which provides sturdy protection from potholes and other obstacles encountered in daily urban driving and on rough terrain. Aramid fibers, also used in the aerospace and defense industries, are embedded in the tire’s sidewall to help it withstand external impacts, even on the roughest roads.

The Nokian Tyres One HT is the company’s first tire to be reinforced with new Aramid Armor. In addition to the sidewall technology featured in most of the sizes, Aramid Armor adds extra protection to the LT-metric versions of the tire. The base compound beneath the tread is also reinforced with Aramid fiber, providing a puncture-resistant shield to protect the tire from road hazards. This innovation provides a significant improvement in durability compared to previous all-season products.

The Nokian Tyres One HT’s versatile size selection covers 36 new products from 16 to 22 inches with a speed rating of R and S for LT metric sizes and T and H for P-metric applications. The tire will be available to consumers in January 2020.

Excellent grip in all conditions

Nokian Tyres designed the Nokian Tyres One HT to perform safely and precisely in all conditions North American drivers are likely to face, including spring rain and summer heat. The tire is built to provide reliable grip, stability and handling on dry, wet and slick roads.

The Nokian Tyres One HT thrives on rainy surfaces thanks to multi-purpose sipes that offer excellent braking and handling. Wide cuts in the tire’s midline longitudinal ribs improve braking grip in all conditions, and wide main grooves combined with transverse grooves between shoulder blocks ensure safe transfer and evacuation of water from the road’s surface.

The product’s unique design features a more conventional, truck-like structure compared to the company’s previous light truck and SUV products, making it a safe option on dry roads, too. Strong shoulder areas stabilize the tire whether the vehicle is cornering or driving straight ahead. The ride is smooth and quiet thanks to a longitudinal rib that locks both rows of the tire’s shoulder blocks, and a step-like pattern in the middle rib leads to more precise steering.

The Nokian Tyres One HT is also reliable in mild winter weather. The company that invented the winter tire put the product through rigorous testing at its facility in Ivalo, Finland, north of the Arctic Circle. The result: a tire that is M + S marked, which indicates the tire is dependable in mild snowfall.

Strong siping in the shoulders and center surface improve the tire’s snow grip, and sharp shoulder edges help the tire navigate straight ahead and laterally. The outer shoulder area has small, aggressive Zig Zag Grooves on both sides and includes Grip Claws that help with longitudinal grip when driving in deep snow or on a soft surface.

Strong pothole and puncture resistance

Nokian Tyres is pleased to introduce new technology with the launch of the Nokian Tyres One HT: Aramid Armor that provides durable, wear-resistant tread to protect LT-metric versions of the tire from punctures. Aramid Armor inside the base compound beneath the tread reinforces the tire, so it can withstand routine road hazards, rocky roads and rough terrain to help North American drivers feel confident regardless of the conditions they’re navigating, taking durability to an unprecedented level.

Company testing reveals significant gains in durability as a result of the new technology. Much more force is now required for road hazards to penetrate the tire and cause damage.

As with all recent generations of the company’s SUV and light truck products, the new tire also features Aramid Sidewall technology that guards against the dangers of potholes and other obstacles. Aramid fibers strengthen the Nokian Tyres One HT’s sidewall, providing durability and protection for surprising situations SUV and light truck drivers are likely to face.

Stone chips that penetrate the tire’s grooves may also cause damage. Stones stuck inside tire grooves may create imbalance or even puncture the tire. They may also become dislodged while driving, damaging the windshield of the driver behind you. To prevent unnecessary harm, the Nokian Tyres One HT comes with stone ejectors at the bottom of the tire’s grooves. These rock removers prevent sharp stones from attaching to the tire and penetrating the tire structure. This innovation increases the service life of the tire and reduces the number of stones flying out from the grooves.
