Are there laws regulating tyre use?

There might be differences in different countries legistlation concerning the use of winter tyres. Please be sure to check country specific regulations before mounting for instance studded tyres on to your car.

In Finland for instance, winter tyres must be used from the beginning of December to the end of February. Non-studded winter tyres can be used year-round but the law states that studded tyres can only be used from the beginning of November until Easter Monday with the exception of inclement weather conditions.

When changing between winter and summer tyres, it is advisable to monitor temperatures. Freezing nights will cause the roads to freeze. If the temperature is then a couple of degrees above zero, bridges and roads near bodies of water may have black ice on them.
